Questions?
Can girls register with Cub Scout Pack 490?
Yes, Pack 490 is enrolling girls as well as boys. Cub Scouts is a Family Scouting organization with grade specific programs for boys and girls entering grades Kindergarten through 5th grades to provide character and leadership opportunities for both boys and girls.
Is the program going to be the same?
The Cub Scout program remains the same with all of the camping, hiking, life skills, fire safety, building projects, STEM opportunities, first aid, health & fitness, etc. that has been a part of the Cub Scout program for years.
Is this change aligned with the National Boy Scouts of America (BSA)?
The National Cub Scout Program has opened registration for girls to give organizations like Pack 490 the chance to allow all youth members of the family to be recognized for their achievements and to offer the Cub Scout program and scout values to the entire family. The goal is to make scouting more accessible to today’s families.
Why are you just including girls now?
This change brings the long time participation of both genders in the BSA Explorer scouts, Venture scouts, and Sea scouts programs to the youngest scouts in Cub Scouts. Girls have already informally been participating in activities, including pack meetings and family camping. The program itself is not changing, but now girls can register and receive the same recognition as the boys. In a recent survey of parents not involved with Scouting, 90% are interested in a program like Cub Scouts for their daughters
